Nate Lovett, AJ Cruz and Stephen Peyton Named All-New England
Providence, Rhode Island - Brown senior safety Stephen Peyton (Woodland, CA), junior defensive back AJ Cruz (Lake Forest, CA), and senior punter Nathan Lovett (East Providence, RI) have been named to the All-New England Football Team as selected by the New England Sportswriters. All New England Players, along with current team captains, will be honored at the New England Football Writers Banquet on Thursday, December 8, at the Montvale Plaza, in Stoneham, Mass.
A three-time All-Ivy punter and a repeat All-New England selection, Lovett led the Ivy League and ranked 26th nationally in punting with a 40.84 yards per punt average. A CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Lovett led the league by a wide margin with 21 punts downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He had a big day against Harvard, punting seven times for a 43.7 yards per punt average. Lovett twice pinned Harvard at the Crimson five-yard line and once at the seven.
One of the top all-around players in the nation, Cruz is also a three-time All-Ivy player after earning first team All-Ivy honors for the second straight season. Cruz, who returned a kick-off 83 yards for a touchdown against Dartmouth, led the Ivy League and ranked fourth nationally in kick-off returns, averaging 31.15 yards per return. He ranked fifth on the Brown team with 60 total tackles and led the Bears with three interceptions, second best in the Ivy League.
A first team All-Ivy selection in 2011, the hard-hitting Peyton ranked fourth on the Brown team with 63 total tackles, including four tackles for a loss. Peyton registered a game-high 10 tackles and a key game-ending interception against the Crusaders and was named the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Week. Peyton had nine tackles against Stony Brook and eight tackles against both Yale and Dartmouth.
