Providence, RI – Coach Phil Estes and the Brown football team will conclude 12 days of spring football practice with the Annual Brown vs. White Spring Football Game, presented by Office Max, on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Brown Stadium, starting at 12:00 noon. The game is free and open to the public.
Following a draft earlier in the week, the Bears were split into two teams, Brown and White, with a full scrimmage expected to take place on Saturday.
Brown finished second in the Ivy League a year ago and is poised to challenge for the Ivy League title with the return of 10 All-Ivy players.
Brown's offense returns first team All-Ivy wide receiver Alex Tounkara, senior honorable mention All-Ivy wide receiver Jimmy Saros, senior honorable mention All-Ivy tailback Mark Kachmer, and senior honorable mention All-Ivy center Jack Geiger. Brown's ground attack will also be buoyed by the return of junior Spiro Theodhosi who missed all of last year due to injury. Junior quarterback Patrick Donnelly threw for 411 yards and rushed for 114 more, while appearing in six games a year ago. First team All-Ivy quarterback Kyle Newhall-Caballero, who played in just two games due to injury last year, will not play in the game.
Six starters return to the Bears' defensive unit, including three All-Ivy players, led by first team All-Ivy junior defensive back AJ Cruz, senior second team All-Ivy safety Steve Peyton and honorable mention All-Ivy defensive end Clay McGrath. Senior co-captain and defensive tackle Joseph Rettig, senior corner back Mel Farr, and junior tackle Ross Walthall also return to the starting lineup.
