Providence, Rhode Island -  Brown junior safety Steve Peyton (Woodland, CA) was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after Saturday's game against Rhode Island for the Governor's Cup.

Seemingly everywhere on the field, Peyton led the Bears' defense with a career high 20 tackles in the battle for the Governor's Cup.  He had seven solo hits and was in on 13 other tackles.  Peyton also broke up a pass and recovered a Rhody fumble.

Peyton made his first career interception in Brown's win over Harvard two weeks ago, returning it 17 yards to set up a Brown field goal.  He also made two solo tackles against the Crimson.  He currently ranks second on the Brown team with 28 tackles for the season.

Peyton and his Brown teammates return to action again on Saturday, October 9, traveling to Worcester, Mass., to face Holy Cross.  Game time at Fitton Field is 1:00 p.m.
