Ben Harrison Places Third in B-Final at Rowing World Championships in Austria
July 30, 2008
Providence, RI - Former Brown oarsman Ben Harrison '07, recently represented the United States in the men's 2+ at the Junior and Senior World Rowing Championship in Linz, Austria. Harrison's boat finished in third place in the B-Final, behind Hungary and Serbia.
It was a close and exciting race, as the US pair was less than .1 seconds away from qualifying for the grand final. In the B-Final, Hungary led from the start, as the U.S. was right behind. However, by the end of the race, Serbia picked up the slack and had a strong sprint and took the second position.
Also rowing this past week was former rower Colin Keogh '08 and Matt Wheeler '09. Both competed in Brandenberg, Germany, for the U-23 World Championships. Keogh raced in the straight four, and finished in ninth place overall, and Wheeler placed fifth in the coxed four event.
Both Harrison and Keogh will begin at Oxford this fall, and will be training for the boat race between Oxford and Cambridge.
