U.S. Rowing has released its preseason collegiate rowing polls and the Brown men's heavyweight varsity team is number eight on the list with 92 votes. California and Washington were voted the top two teams respectively with 155 and 149 votes. The Ivy League dominates both the heavyweight and lightweight rankings with seven schools on both lists.
The Bears opened up the 2003 spring season on Sunday at home versus Syracuse and swept the heavyweight, lightweight and freshmen races. Brown won the varsity race by over five seconds and the varsity and freshmen races by five lengths or more.
Brown's next race will be at Boston University on Saturday April 5. The race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. The Terriers heavyweight crew, which also defeated Syracuse in their season opener on Mar. 29, is 19th on the preseason poll.
