Brown Men's Crew Competes at EARC Eastern Sprints

May 20, 2002

The best performance of the day came in the freshman heavyweight eight race, where Coach Matt Carlson's freshman finished second. The team was able to hold off top seeded Princeton and Yale, which came up with a torrid sprint in the last 300 meters.

"We jumped off in second and got into a good rhythm early, " stroke oar Bill Murray said. "Princeton came up almost even with us at one point but then we pushed out again."

The freshman boat included, Terrance Kookyer (Far Hills, NJ) at seven, Jim Garvey (Jefferson, MA) at six; Arden Beddoes (Ottawa, Ontario) at five; Henry Burden (Seattle, WA) at four; Alex Hurtado (New York, NY) at three; Steve Van Knotsenburg (Beamsville, Ontario) at two; and Morgan Bayliss (Saratoga, CA) at coxswain.

Brown returns to action on May 30 at the IRA Championships in Camden, New Jersey.
