Providence, RI -

The Brown men's crew made its 2006 debut on the Seekonk River on Saturday afternoon, a debut that won't soon be forgotten as the Bears' varsity eight handed three-time defending national champion Harvard its first loss in three years. The Crimson edged out Brown in the three other races on the day but nothing could put a damper on the young varsity eight's triumph.

Brown, stroked by junior Joe Donahue, took an early lead before Harvard made a big push to take the lead halfway through. The Bears made a fierce comeback though, sprinting to a a 5:35.7 to 5:36.2 victory.

Senior Patrick Yu (coxswain), sophomore Colin Keogh (seven), junior co-captain Ben Harrison (six), junior co-captain Dave Coughlin (five), senior Steve Van Knotsenburg (four), sophomore Ryan McShane (three), sophomore Chris Greene (two), and sophomore Paul Strombom (bow) made up the rest of the varsity eight.

The Bears will return to action next Saturday morning as they face Northeastern in Boston, MA. The first race will begin at approximately 7:12 a.m.
