Providence, RI - The Brown men's crew turned in solid performances today, as they defeated the Boston University Terriers in all five races earning the Michalson Cup this morning at the Narragansett Boat Club.
Brown's varsity eight earned the first win of the morning, as they convincingly defeated the Terriers 5:53.3-6:08.6 despite light winds and an incoming tide. Junior Rob O'Leary (Fayetteville, NY) coxswained the boat, as Scott Morgan (Palo Alto, CA) was at stroke, and senior co-captain Colin Keogh (Greenwich, CT) was in the seven seat. In seat six was Gareth Seymour (Niagara Falls, ONT), followed by Ben Duggan (Bingham, UK), Cole Bonner (Chicago, IL), Matt Wheeler (Eugene, OR), Chris Greene (Cincinnati, OH) and senior co-captain Paul Strombom (Seattle, WA) at bow.
Then, just before the second varsity set out, the tide changed to an outgoing tide. Coxswain Devin Wilmot coxswained the second varsity, helping the team pick up the second win, as they defeated BU 5:41.1-5:58.1. At stroke was Nick Ritter (Huntsville, AL), followed by Mike Snyder (San Francisco, IL) in seat seven, Greg Stepina (Tallahassee, FL) in seat six, Garrett Kirk (Boston, MA) in the five seat and Sean Medcalf (Philadelphia, PA) in the four seat. Ryan McShane (Eugene, OR) was in seat three, as James Rowan (Fairfax, VA) was in two and Christian Crynes (Seattle, WA) was at bow.
Up next was the novice eight race, as the freshman crossed the line in 5:38.1 to the Terriers' 5:48.1. The third varsity beat BU by 20 seconds, earning a time of 5:38.2 to BU's 5:58.7. The second freshman four wrapped up Brown's racing, as they also picked up a 6:34.4 - 6:55.0 victory.
The Bears will now host Harvard on Saturday, April 12, and then travel to Northeastern on Saturday, April 19.
