Men's Crew Dominates Boston University In Three Race Sweep

April 5, 2003

Boston, MA - The Brown men's crew team remains undefeated this season as the eighth ranked Bears swept three races against 19th ranked Boston University on Saturday Apr. 5 during a winter storm that brought snow, sleet and rain to the Charles River. Brown is now 2-0 on the season as it defeated Syracuse in the spring opener last Sunday.

It was not certain if the weather would postpone the races or alter the course from the traditional 2000-meter race that begins in the Charles River Basin. While there were no stake boats and all races began from a floating start, the course did, in fact, begin in the Basin and go under the Mass. Ave. Bridge, past the MIT boathouse and to the finish line just east of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Brown covered the course in 5:55.0, over seven seconds faster then the Terriers time of 6:02.28 in the varsity heavyweight race. The margin was closer in the second varsity event in which Brown was timed in 6:08.04 to 6:13.77 for the Terriers. In the first freshman event, Brown dominated from the outset en route to rowing 5:56.82 to 6:20.23.

First Varsity: 1.) Brown, 5:55.0; 2.) Boston University, 6:02.28
Second Varsity: 1.) Brown, 6:08.04; 2.) Boston University, 6:13.77
First Freshmen: 1.) Brown, 5:56.82; 2.) Boston University, 6:23.23
