Joel began his rowing career in 1990 at St. John's, and continued his rowing at Brown, winning the Eastern Sprints and finishing second at IRA's as a freshman. He was a member of Coach Cooke's first freshman class at Brown. Joel went on to row on the varsity at Brown and eventually competed for the U.S. at the Nations Cup in the quadruple sculls. Like the entire coaching staff, Joel has strong ties to Brown University and to rowing at Brown. He is committed to seeing Brown become one of the most successful programs in the U.S.
