HENLEY-ON-THAMES, United Kingdom – The Brown men's crew continued the 2014 Henley Royal Regatta with another convincing win by the freshmen eight on the second day of competition at the prestigious five-day event on Thursday morning.
The Brown freshmen earned a second straight win in the Temple Challenge Cup on Thursday as the Bears beat Edinburgh University by three lengths, finishing in a time of seven minutes and nine seconds. Brown previously downed the University of Bristol by over fourth lengths in the first race of The Temple Challenge Cup, a race open to novice male crews from colleges, universities or schools. Brown completed the 2,112-meter course in a time of six minutes and 54 seconds. The Henley Royal Regatta features a knockout-style competition with just two crews in head-to-head format. The Brown freshmen earned bronze at the IRA National Championship and won gold at the EARC Eastern Sprints.
The freshmen will continue the Temple Challenge Cup on Friday when they face Western Ontario. The Brown varsity eight will compete in the Ladies' Challenge Plate event against Oxford Brookes on Friday.
