Men’s Crew Looks to Defend Ivy League Title at EARC Sprints
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 5 Brown men's crew will seek to defend its title in the Varsity Eight when the Bears head to the Eastern Association of Rowing College (EARC) Sprints on Sunday, May 19 at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. In addition to the EARC title, made up of the top rowing schools in the East, the event will also determine the Ivy League Championship.
The EARC Sprints is held on a six-lane buoyed course in heat/final progression with heats occurring in the morning followed by the finals in the afternoon. Brown will be entered in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity, Third Varsity, Freshmen Eight and Fourth Varsity events.
Brown upset Harvard last year to claim the Marc Bergschneider Ivy League Heavyweight Trophy for the third time in the last five seasons, winning by three-tenths of a second in the grand final. This time around, Brown will look to defend the title against No. 2 Harvard after the two crews battled for the Stein Cup earlier this season when the Crimson pulled out a narrow victory by 1.1 seconds on the Charles River.
Brown, winners of the Ivy League title in 2008-09 and 2012, went 3-1 against the Ancient Eight during the regular season, earning victories over Princeton, Dartmouth and Yale.
