Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England - The Brown Men's Crew rowed to another set of successful races on Friday in the Grand Challenge Cup and the Temple Challenge Cup of the Henley Royal Regatta. The Brown Varsity, the only University Crew in a field of international competitors, easily defeated Centro Nazionale di Canottaggio Piediluco, Italy.
Two of the seniors in the boat, Alex Fleming and Greg Silverberg, earned Academic All-Ivy this year for their excellent performance in the classroom earlier this year and are exemplary of the dedication and hard work that is expected of Brown students and athletes. The Varsity looks to continue its winning record this afternoon against a crew from Australia's National Rowing Centre of Excellence.
The Brown 2nd Varsity racing in the Temple Challenge Cup defeated last year's runner-up in that event, Amsterdamsche Studenten Roeivereeniging Nereus 'A', Holland, by a distance of 3 and 1/4 lengths over 7 minutes and 15 seconds. The Bears look to move on to the finals after racing St. Petersburg University of Russia this afternoon.
