Princeton, N.J. - On a day of calm winds and clear skies the No. 3 Brown men's crew was victorious over No. 8 Princeton, bringing home the Content Cup to Providence. The Bears's varsity eight boat had and exicting race against the Tigers as the back-and-forth contest ended in Bruno's favor as Brown sped past Princeton.
In V8 race, Princeton shot ahead early in the first quarter of the contest to a four seat advantage, but coming into the 500-meter mark Brown pulled back level. The Tigers pushed their bow ahead again in the second 500, however Bruno was ready this time and was able to hold them to three seats and countered with a move of their own.
Brown put forth a superb effort at the midpoint and decisively moved ahead by more than six seats. Bruno continued to move steadily through to the finish line with a length of open water separating the two at the flag.
In the JV race, Brown was unable to hold onto an early five seat advantage through the middle of the race and finished with their bow on the Princeton stern.
The Brown freshmen were unable to find any traction and lost seats early on a final margin behind Princeton of just over one length of water.
The Brown 3V and 4V both faced off against the Princeton 3V and both Brown crews rowed tenacious races in which the Brown third varsity finished with open water over the Brown fourth varsity, who's stern was just ahead of Princeton's bow.
The Brown oarsmen will now prepare for the Eastern Sprints coming up in two weeks in Worcester, Mass., on May 13.
