Brown Crew Set for Pull For A Cure at Head of the Charles
PROVIDENCE, R.I. –Brown men's crew is primed for a major weekend as the team heads to Boston, Mass. for one of the biggest races of the year, The Head of the Charles, and one of Brown Athletics' biggest fundraisers, Pull for a Cure.
This is the second year in which crew will hold its major fundraising effort in support of breast cancer. Last year, the team raised $25,000 dollars in just six weeks, but looks to reach $40,000 this year
"This all came about as we tried to think of something our team could do to make the community and Brown University a better place," said senior Dan Aziz (Oakville, Ontario). "My family and friends have been affected by this disease and using the Head of the Charles and pink uniforms to help our fundraising efforts, we have almost doubled our output from last year."
This year, six teams will participate in Pull for a Cure including Yale, Georgetown and Penn State. Each team will also wear the pink uniforms and the team that raises the most money will be awarded a special trophy for their efforts. As a whole, Pull for Cure hopes to raise close to $200,000.
All are encouraged to donate to Pull for a Cure and can do so at this website.
The Bears have a large entry for the Head of the Charles this year with three championship eights, a championship four and a club eight. The Brown alumni are also entered in the championship eight event. The club eight races at 1:14 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, the championship four races on Sunday at 2:33 p.m. and the championship eight event starts at 2:55 p.m.
