Providence, RI – Brown successfully defended the Atalanta Cup against Dartmouth on Saturday evening, taking open water wins in all four events to sweep the Big Green on the Seekonk River. The varsity eight turned in the fastest time of the day on an outgoing tide, rowing 5:58.6 as the only boat to break six minutes.
The evening began with the third varsity eight, where Brown set the tone by jumping out to an early lead and pulling away for an open water victory, crossing the line in 7:21.1. Bruno's fourth varsity eight, also competing in the event, pulled a 7:38.0 to take second, while Dartmouth rounded out the field in 8:08.4.
In the next event, Brown's freshman eight turned in one of its more impressive outings of the season, traversing the course in 7:09.5, and beating the Big Green by open water, as Dartmouth finished in 7:23.3.
The top two boats for the Bears then closed out the day with a pair of decisive wins, as Brown's second varsity rowed a 6:45.2 for a 15-second margin of victory. That was followed by another open water win in the varsity eight, as the Bears pulled a 5:58.6, edging Dartmouth's 6:11.8.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, May 1, when they close out the regular season at Princeton.
