With final exams on the horizon, head coach Jesse Agel's men's basketball team will play Hartford on Tuesday, December 9th at the Pizzitola Sports Center, its last game before breaking for finals, which extend through December 20. Brown (3-5) is coming off a 64-61 loss at New Hampshire on Saturday, while Hartford fell to 3-6 on the season following a 60-64 loss to LaSalle.
Brown Athletics is teaming up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for the Annual Toys for Tots Drive. Fans bringing a new, unwrapped toy to Brown's Tuesday, December 9th game against Hartford will be admitted to the game for free. Brown's Toys for Tots campaign culminates with the 2nd Annual Teddy Bear Toss during halftime of Tuesday's game. All fans bringing a new teddy bear to this game will be admitted for free and be able to participate in the halftime contest. The winner of the Teddy Bear Toss will win an exclusive prize pack from many of Brown's corporate sponsors.
Junior center Matt Mullery scored a team-high 15 points against New Hampshire, connecting on 5 of 6 field goals and 4 of 4 free throws, while senior forward Scott Friske added 14 points for the Bears. The Hawks have registered wins over St. Francis (NY), NJIT, and Lafayette, while also losing to Quinnipiac, UConn, Penn State, Rhode Island and Niagara.
Brown and Hartford will be meeting for the seventh time with the Bears holding a 4-2 series advantage over the Hawks. The series began in 1989-1990. Brown has won the last two meetings, including a 79-61 win last year on 12-22-07 in Hartford, Connecticut, behind Chris Skrelja's `09 career high 29 points. Hartford's last win over the Bears came on 1-4-04 when the Hawks earned a 70-63 win at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
