Providence, R.I -
After three straight games on the road, Brown returns for its home opener against Northwestern, the first Big 10 team to play in the Pizzitola Sports Center, on Saturday, November 22, starting at 7:00 p.m.
Brown (1-2) is coming off its first win of the season and first career head coaching victory for head coach Jesse Agel, a 62-57 victory over Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Junior Matt Mullery scored 18 points, and sophomore Adrian Williams added a career high 16 points and 7 steals, second best in Brown basketball history. Northwestern (2-0), coached by former Princeton mentor Bill Carmody, is coming off a 66-48 win over Texas-Corpus Christi on Wednesday.
Brown and Northwestern have met five times before, with the Wildcats holding a 3-2 series lead. Brown earned a 73-67 win over Northwestern last year on 11-24-07 with Peter Sullivan scoring 16 of his career high 19 points in the second half. Northwestern beat the Bears two years ago, 64-40 in the 2006-2007 season.
Fans coming to the game will enjoy some changes made to The Pizzitola Sports Center, which received a face-lift in the off-season with a new playing surface and design, bleachers, and lighting. A new state-of-the-art hardwood floor was installed over the summer with a simpler, clean court design. Teams and fans will also be greeted by new, energy-efficient lighting, new bleachers on the team side of the court, and chair-back seats under the balcony.
