Providence, RI - The Brown men's basketball team, coming off an NIT appearance and its best Ivy League record ever, will open its season with an exhibition game against the Branch West Basketball Academy on Sunday, November 9th at the Pizzitola Sports Center, beginning at 3:00 p.m. The game is open to the public and admission is free.
Coach Glen Miller's Bears will take on a new look this season with the loss of two of its top three career scorers, Earl Hunt and Alai Nuualiitia. But the cupboard isn't bare with the return of first team All-Ivy guard Jason Forte, the Bears' flamboyant point guard, and high-scoring guard Pat Powers, who scored 32 points against Navy last year.
The Branch West Basketball Academy, based in Orange, California is coached by former Jacksonville and Wisconsin-Milwaukee head coach Bob Gottlieb, and is made up of recent college graduates from all over the United States. In addition to playing Brown in the pre-season, BWBA will face Cal State Fullerton, North Carolina Wilmington, San Diego State, Weber State and Cal Poly St. Louis Obispo. Last year, Branch West put itself on the basketball map by beating UCLA, 92-67.
