Brown University freshman point guard Jason Forte (Rockville, MD) was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after helping Brown to a 3-0 record last week with wins over Coast Guard, Cornell and Columbia. The Bears are now 11-4 overall and in a three way tie for first place in the Ivy standings with a 2-0 league mark.
Forte, who is second in the Ivy League in assists with 5.13 per game, scored a game-high 19 points and handed out eight assists in Brown's 99-67 non-league win over Coast Guard.
In a big Ivy League match-up with the Columbia Lions at the Pizzitola Center, Forte amassed 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in just 22 minutes and while lofting just six shots. Trailing by five, Forte led his Bears to a decisive 18-2 run in the second half. Forte also scored seven points against Cornell.
Forte averaged 13.3 points and 4.7 assists for the week, and continued to be solid from the free throw line, shooting 85 percent (17 of 20) from the charity stripe in three games.
