Worcester, MA - Sophomore guard Kevin Hamilton scored 15 points to lead four Holy Cross players in double figures as the Crusaders earned a 69-43 non-league win over Brown. Holy Cross evened its record at 4-4 with the victory while Brown drops to 2-6 for the season.
Brown senior forward Jaime Kilburn scored 10 of Brown's first 13 points as the Bears built an early 13-9 lead. The Crusaders answered by outscoring Brown 11-0 to grab a 20-13 advantage on a lay-up by junior center Nate Lufkin. Holy Cross, the three-time defending Patriot League Champions, grabbed its biggest lead of the first half, 31-18, on a three-point play by senior Jave Meade with 43 seconds left in the half.
With a 33-22 lead at halftime, Crusaders kept the defensive pressure up in the second half, holding the Bears to just 6 of 19 shooting from the field in the second half. The closest Brown could get to the Crusaders was seven points, 35-28 on a lay-up by Kilburn with 16:00 left in the game.
In addition to Hamilton's 15 points, Meade, freshman Keith Simmons and junior John Hurley scored 12 points each. Hurley pulled down nine rebounds to go with his 9 points.
Kilburn led the Bears with his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior guard Jason Forte netted 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Brown's remaining three starters, Pat Powers, Sam Manhanga and Luke Ruscoe, were held to a combined five points.
The Bears welcomed the return of senior co-captain Mike Martin, who played his first minutes since being injured last February. Martin did not score in 14 minutes of action.
The Bears will be back in action next Sunday, December 28, against Wright State. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
