Athens, Ohio - Jeff Halbert scored 14 points and Clay McGowan tossed in 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Ohio University to a 71-62 victory over Brown. The win lifts the Bobcats to 2-4 overall, while the Bears fell to 2-5.
The Bobcats shot a torrid 55 percent from three-point range, connecting on 11 of 20 treys. Halbert led the way by connecting on 4 of 5 three-point attempts.
Brown grabbed an early 12-5 lead on a three-point basket by freshman Sam Manhanga with 14:20 left in the half. The Bobcats responded with an 18-4 run to take a 23-16 advantage on a lay-up by Clay McGowan at the 8:49 mark.
The Bears fell behind by as many as eight points, 31-23, but outscored Ohio, 8-0, tie the game, 31-31, on a lay-up by sophomore Luke Ruscoe with 4:26 left in the half. Ohio grabbed a 37-34 lead at the half on two baskets by Sonny Troutman and two free throws by Tom Stephens.
Brown fell behind by 10 points in the second half, 58-48, but battled back to within two points of the Bobcats, trailing 60-48 on a lay-up by junior Jason Forte with 6:23 remaining to play. The Bears had an opportunity to draw even in their next three possessions, but turned it over two straight times down court and missed a one and one. Ohio took over down the stretch, scoring the game's next nine points to put the game away, 69-58, on a three point jumper by Halbert with 55 seconds remaining.
The Bears were led by senior Jaime Kilburn, who registered his third double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and pulling down a career high 13 rebounds. Senior Pat Powers added 13 points, and Forte, who missed Brown's previous game against Rhode Island due to injury, came off the bench to score 9 points.
Jaivon Harris and Thomas Stephens scored 11 points each for the Bobcats.
The Bears will break for final exams for the next 15 days and return to action against at Holy Cross on December 21.
