Dec. 1, 2007

Providence, RI - Senior Mark McAndrew scored a game high 18 points, and senior Damon Huffman and junior Chris Skrelja added 15 points to lead the Brown men's basketball team to a 74-57 victory over UC Davis at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win evens the Bears' record at 3-3, while UC Davis drops to 4-3 overall.

Brown seemingly had control of the game in the second half, building a 53-40 lead with 10:55 left in the game on a Huffman layup. The Aggies clawed back and pulled to within three points of the Bears, 60-57, with 5:24 remaining.

The Bears took command once again and scored the last 13 points of the game to claim the 16-point victory.

In a game of first half spurts, Brown jumped out to an early 13-3 lead on a three-point basket by freshman Adrian Williams with 13:35 left in the first half. But a 14-4 UC Davis run tied the game, 17-17, with 8:12 left in the half on a trey by David Carter.

The Bears jumped back on top, building a 35-27 advantage on two free throws by Mark McAndrew with 1:17 remaining, before settling on a 35-28 lead at the half.

McAndrew's 18 points came mostly at the free throw line as the senior guard converted 10 of 12 free throws and 4 of 8 field goals. Skrelja scored his points much the same way, converting 9 of 10 free throws and 3 of 6 field goals. While Huffman only went to the free throw line twice, hitting both attempts, he hit 5 of 12 free throws, including 3 of 8 treys.

Junior Scott Friske pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, and McAndrew, Skrelja and Huffman each grabbed six boards, as the Bears out-rebounded the Aggies by a 40-24 margin.

UC Davis was led by Ryan Silva with 14 points and Shane hanson, who came off the bench to net 12 points.

The Bears will be back in action on Monday, December 3, at Quinnipiac. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at TD Banknorth Sports Center in Hamden, Conn.
