Kingston, RI - The Brown men's basketball dropped a 72-62 decision to Rhode Island in the season opener for the Rams at the Ryan Center. Senior Jason Forte scored a game high 23 points to lead the Bears, who fall to 0-3 overall.
The Bears trailed 39-36 at the half with Forte keeping the score close by scoring 17 pointsand connecting on five three point baskets.
Brown pulled to with one point ofthe Rams, 49-48, on a three-point basket by Freshman Damon Huffman with 11:23 remaining. But that was as close as the Bears would get,as the Rams scored the game's next seven points to take control of play.
Huffman finished the game with 14 points, hitting 4 of 6 treys, while handing out four assists. Freshman Mark MacDonald had a solid game for the Bears, netting a career high13 points, connecting on 5 of 6 shots from the field,including 3 of 3 treys. Sophomore PJ Flaherty added six points, pulled down six rebounds and blocked two shots.Forte had six rebounds with his 23 points. His five three-point baskets rank ninth in the Brown record for a single game.
The Rams were led by UConn transfer Scott Hazelton, whos cored 22 points.
