Providence, RI - The University of Rhode Island capitalized on a 33-9 first half run to come away with a 75-61 win over Brown before a crowd of 2,775 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Rams were led by senior Will Daniels, who scored 26 points, while junior Scott Friske led the Bears with 13 points.
Brown jumped out to an early 14-3 advantage four minutes into the game, but the Rams answered by outscoring the Bears,33-9, to grab a 36-23 lead on a layup by Keith Cothran with :50 seconds left in the half.
The Bears trailed 39-28 at the half, and pulled to within nine points of the Rams, 39-30, on two free throws by junior Chris Skrelja with 19:39 left in the game. But that was as close as the Bears would get as the Rams utilized a decided height advantage to outscore the Bears 40-22 in the paint.
Friske added six rebounds and four assists to go with his team high 13 points for the Bears. Senior Mark MacDonald scored 11 points for Brown, while seniors Mark McAndrew and Damon Huffman chipped in 10 points each.
Daniels' 26 points came on 10 of 15 shooting from the field, while grabbing six rebounds. Cothran tossed in 17 points for the Rams, while Lamonte Ulmer scored 12 points and registered seven rebounds.
The Bears will be back in action again on Saturday, November 24 at Northwestern.
