Mullery Sets New Mark For Blocks, Brown Falls To Columbia, 70-57

Providence, RI - Senior Patrick Foley scored 21 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field to lead Columbia (11-12, 6-3 Ivy) to a 70-57 Ivy league win over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Bears' junior Matt Mullery scored 21 points and blocked four shots to lead Brown, who drop to 7-16, 1-8 in the Ivy League.
With four blocked shots against the Lions, Mullery established a new Brown record for blocked shots in a single season, now with 43 blocks for the year. He eclipsed the previous mark of 42 blocked shots by Jamie Kilburn '04 in 2003-2004.
Columbia held a 27-21 lead at the half and jumped out to a 45-33 lead with 10:54 left in the game on a lay-up by Foley. The Bears clawed back into the game with a 7-0 run to pull to within five points of the Lions, 45-40, on a jump shot by sophomore Peter Sullivan with 9:06 left in the game.
The Lions answered with a 15-6 run to take control of the game and grab their biggest lead, 60-46, on a jump shot by Noruwa Agho with 5:57 left to play.
Brown held a 17-10 lead with 9:25 remaining in the first half following a lay-up by Mullery. The Bears were held to just two field goals the rest of the half, being outscored by the Lions, 17-4, to give Columbia a 27-21 halftime lead.
Mullery's 21 points came on 7 of 12 shooting from the field, while he converted 7 of 8 free throws. Sullivan connected on 7 of 14 field goals in scoring 19 points, while sophomore Adrian Williams also scored in double figures for the Bears with 10 points.
The difference in the game proved to be off the bench, where the Lions outscored the Bears by a 45-1 margin., including Foley's 21 points. Agho tossed in 27 point in a starting role for Columbia, while KJ Matsui came off the bench to toss in 14 points.
The Bears will face defending Ivy Champion Cornell tomorrow night at the Pizzitola Sports Center, starting at 7:00 p.m.
