PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Shaun Etheridge scored 13 points and Earl Hunt added 12 Friday night to lift Brown to a 72-59 victory over Cornell.
Brown (10-4, 1-0 Ivy League) shot 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 13-of-29 from the field in the first half to take a 36-28 halftime lead even though Cornell held a 24-13 rebounding edge.
Cornell (3-11, 0-1) led 8-7 with 15:46 to play in the half, but Brown went on a 17-5 run over the next 8:07 to take a 24-13 lead. The Big Red responded with a 13-6 run to draw within four points with 2:39 to play, but 3-pointers by Hunt and Mike Martin kept the Bears on top.
Cornell's Wallace Prather scored five points early in the second half to cut Brown's lead to 38-35, but Brown used a 7-0 run to bump the lead back to 10.
The Bears held a steady lead for the rest of the game, shooting 12-of-12 from the free throw line in the final 16 minutes and holding Cornell to 32 percent from the field.
Prather led all scorers with 16 points and Jacques Vigneault added 12 points, all on 3-pointers.
