Hartford, Conn. - Senior guard Ryan Stys scored 24 points and sophomore Aaron Cook added 20 points to lead Hartford to a 70-63 win over Brown. The loss drops Brown to 3-8 overall, while Hartford extended its record to 4-5.
With the score tied, 32-32, Cook connected on two consecutive three point baskets to help Hartford to a 38-34 halftime lead. Cook netted 17 first half points, including 4 of 8 three-point baskets, as Hartford connected on 6 of 19 treys.
Brown fell behind by eight points, 55-47, midway through the second half, and got to within five points of the Hawks, trailing 55-50 with 7:53 left in the game on two free throws by senior Pat Powers.
Stys took over the game in the second half, scoring 13 of his 24 points and knocking down 6 of 6 free throws in the last 45 seconds of the game.
The Bears were led by junior Jason Fotre, who scored 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field. Senior Pat Powers scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while senior Jaime Kilburn added 10 points for Brown.
Brown will continue its road trip with a major test against 6th-ranked Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Tuesday.
