Paul Halas, an assistant coach at Division III national champion Amherst for the past two seasons, is the newest member of head basketball coach Mike Martin's Brown basketball staff.
"We are fortunate to be able to add Paul to our staff,” said Martin. “He has great experience both as a student-athlete and coach at some fine institutions. Being part of a national championship program at Amherst and working for Dave Hixon is going to really help as we continue to build our program at Brown."
As an assistant coach at Amherst, Halas helped guide the Lord Jeffs to a 30-2 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2012-13. The 2011-12 Amherst team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. He had responsibilities for recruiting, perimeter players, game/practice preparation and film exchange.
Halas graduated from Rensselaer in 2006 with a Bachelor of
Science in Communications, and appeared in 61 career games as a
member of the basketball team. As a senior captain he was named the
school’s Henry Kumpf Award recipient, which is given annually
to a student-athlete who has demonstrated a strong degree of
motivation, desire and determination in contributing to the success
of the team.
A native of Sea Girt, N.J., Halas spent the 2007-08 season as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program at Drew University with responsibilities for recruiting, game-planning and scouting.
