Providence, R.I. - Brown freshman forward Steven Spieth (Dallas, TX) was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after stepping up in the Bears' wins over Cornell and Columbia.
Against Cornell, with Brown's starting backcourt in foul trouble, Spieth poured in a career-high 18 points on an almost perfect shooting night (5-of-5 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line). He added two assists and three rebounds against the Big Red. Spieth scored five points and pulled down four rebounds against Columbia, despite being in foul trouble throughout.
Spieth has started all 18 games for the Bears and is averaging 6.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, 12th best in the Ivy League. He has helped the Bears to an 11-7 overall record, 3-1 in the Ivy League, Brown's best league start since the 2003-2004 season.
The Bears will face first place Harvard on Friday (2/7) in Boston, MA, and Dartmouth on Saturday (2/8) in Hanover, NH.
