    Brown Athletics Announces 2013 Award Winners at Fifth Annual Senior Luncheon The Fifth Annual Brown Athletics Senior Celebration and Awards Luncheon was held at Andrews Dining Hall on Monday, May 20, 2013. Over 275 student-athletes, coaches, staff and distinguished guests were in attendance at the banquet to celebrate another year of success in competition, in the classroom and in the community. President Christina Paxson and Director of Athletics Jack Hayes each took the opportunity to address the room and acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of the class of 2013.

    Men's Basketball Team Awards Presented At Annual Team Banquet Brown men’s basketball held its annual team banquet and awards dinner on Sunday evening with a group of players, coaches, alumni, parents and staff members attending the event at Fleming’s Steakhouse in downtown Providence. Head coach Mike Martin and his coaching staff presented several team awards, while each of Brown’s three seniors – Stephen Albrecht (Crown Point, IN), Tyler Ponticelli and Matt Sullivan – spoke about their Brown experience.

    TJ Sorrentine to be Inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame Former Vermont standout and current associate head basketball coach at Brown, TJ Sorrentine, has been named to the 2013 New England Basketball Hall of Fame. On Saturday, June 22, Sorrentine will join other honorees representing a variety of categories including coaches, players, teams and special contributors at a major ceremony at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

All camps will be held on the Brown campus.

    Sean McGonagill and Matt Sullivan Named All-Ivy; Cedric Kuakumensah Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year The All-Ivy Men’s Basketball Team was released today with Brown junior point guard Sean McGonagill (Brookfield, IL) earning First Team All-Ivy honors and senior guard Matt Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) being named Second Team All-Ivy in a vote of the Ancient Eight men’s basketball coaches. In addition, Bears’ freshman forward Cedric Kuakumensah (Worcester, MA) was named the Ivy League’s Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first freshman to claim the award for defensive prowess.

    Brown Eliminates Princeton, 80-67, To Finish 7-7 In The Ivy League Junior guard Sean McGonagill scored a game high 24 points, and three Brown seniors scored in double figures, to lead the Bears to an 80-67 win over Princeton, eliminating the Tigers from Ivy League title contention and giving Harvard the Ivy league Championship. Brown finishes its season winning four of its last five games for a 13-15 record overall, 7-7 in the Ivy League.

In a turn-around season for the Bears, coach Mike Martin's team hosts Penn on Friday, March 8, starting at 7 pm, and Princeton on Saturday, March 9, at 6 pm. The Bears took Harvard to double overtime before falling to the Crimson earlier this year in Cambridge, while earning a win over the BIg Green in Hanover. Brown players demonstrated the fundamentals of basketball and participated in drills with Special Olympians from throughout the State of Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts. Nearly 150 Special Olympians and 50 guests participated.

The 34 points allowed the Bears allowed the fewest points since Dartmouth scored 29 points in a 32-29 win for the Bears in the 1979-1980 season.
