Cold-Shooting Brown Taken Down By Hartford, 58-46

Hartford, Conn. - Senior Anthony Minor scored 15 points and pulled down a game high nine rebounds as Hartford led from start to finish in a 58-46 win over Brown at the Chase Arena. The loss drops the Bears to 3-3 on the season, while Hartford moves to 2-5 overall.

 

Brown sophomore guard Matt Sullivan scored a career high 19 points to lead all scorers, including a career high five treys, on incredible 5 of 6 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Sullivan connected on his first seven shots from the field, finishing the game with 7 of 8 shooting

 

While Sullivan was on fire from the three-point arc, the rest of his teammates connected on just one additional trey for the entire game, shooting a combined 1 of 17 from three-point range.

 

Senior Peter Sullivan, Matt's brother, also scored in double figures for Brown, adding 11 points, while pulling down five rebounds.  Sophomore Andrew McCarthy's six rebounds led the Bears.

 

Trailing 31-22 at the half, Brown got back in the game with a 12-5 spurt to pull to within two points of the Hawks, 36-34, on a lay-up by Peter Sullivan with 15:16 remaining.  Hartford took control of the game by out-scoring the Bears 18-9 over the next 10 minutes to grab a 54-43 advantage on a lay-up by Minor with just 5:38 left on the clock.

 

Brown got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 11-0 in the first four minutes of the game.  A trey by Bears' senior Adrian Williams, and two treys by Matt Sullivan got Brown back on track with a 9-0 run, trailing 12-9, with 14:19 left in the half.

 

The Bears pulled to within three points, 23-20, with 4:14 left in the half on two free throws by freshman Sean McGonagill.  But the Hawks came back in the latter minutes of the half to grab a 31-22 lead at intermission, holding Brown to its lowest first half output of the season.

 

Brown continues its four game road stand and third straight against an America East team by traveling to Orono, Maine, to face the Maine Black Bears on Saturday, December 4.  Game time is 2:00 p.m. at the Alfond Arena.
