Providence, RI - Recent Brown graduate Shaun McNamara '06 was named the Can-Am League's Rookie Pitcher of the Year last week. McNamara, who signed with the independent league's North Shore Spirit on July 12, went 5-0 with a 2.15 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched. He appeared in 10 games for the Spirit, starting seven.
This spring, McNamara led the Bears with 45 strikeouts, going 2-4 with a 5.75 ERA in nine starts. He is seventh on the team's all-time strikeout list with 167.
The Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, or Can-Am League, has been active in its current incarnation for two seasons. It is comprised of eight teams located in New England, New Jersey and Quebec. The Spirit finished in first place in both halves of the Can-Am League season before falling to Quebec, three games to two, in the league's semifinals.
