Lynn, MA - Brown senior pitcher Shaun McNamara signed a contract with the North Shore Spirit of the CANAM Independent Baseball League on Tuesday. McNamara, a native of Worcester, MA, is slated to earn his first start tomorrow night against Sussex. North Shore took over first place in the league with a 903 win over Sussex on Monday night. The team is currently 23-19 on the season.
McNamara appeared in 43 games, starting 27 of them throughout his four-year career at Brown. He closed out his career ranked seventh all-time at Brown with 167 career strikeouts. He emerged as a conference starter in just his sophomore year in 2004, posting a team-high five wins that season. He also led the team in strikeouts and was second in innings pitched. As a junior in 2005, he finished second among Brown's starting pitchers with a 4.96 ERA and had the second best record on the the team, going 3-1. He allowed just one earned run in seven complete innings in a 5-2 win against Yale. As a senior, McNamara made nine starts on the mound, pitching a team-high 56.1 innings. He led the team with 45 strikeouts.
