Matt Kutler Selected To NEIBA All-Star Team

Medford, MA - Brown senior Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) was selected to play in the 30th annual College Baseball All-Star game at Fenway Park on Sunday, June 5. Kutler was named a First Team selection as a total of 25 players from New England Division I teams were chosen by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA). This marks the third time Kutler will be playing in the All-Star game as he was an Honorable Mention in 2002 and a First Team selection in 2003.

In a unanimous vote by the league's eight head coaches, Brown senior outfielder Matt Kutler was named Ivy League Player of the Year. Kutler, who also received First Team All-Ivy honors for the third straight time in his career, led the Ancient Eight in eight different batting categories and finished the season ranked tenth in the nation with a .427 batting average.

Kutler received the Fritz Pollard Award, given to Brown's male varsity athlete of the year. The Omaha, NE native broke virtually every batting record in the school's history along with the Ivy League's all-time hits record, compiling 260 career hits.

In Ivy games only, Kutler batted .459 with 39 hits and 16 runs batted in. Brown finished the Ivy season 14-6, its best record ever. Kutler was named the Ivy League's Player of the Week on April 12 after leading the Bears to a 6-0 week, posting a .640 average at the plate with six runs scored and six runs batted in.

At one point during the season, he went 14-16 in four games, including a 7-7 performance in a two-games series with the University of Rhode Island. He posted a total of 22 multiple hit games and strung together a 16 game hitting streak. Kutler posted a .974 fielding percentage in the outfield, recording 74 putouts.

The All-Star game, which will be Division I vs. Division II & III, will be played after the Red Sox host the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway on June 5, with an approximate starting time of 6:30 p.m.
