Providence, RI - Brown freshman first baseman Pete Greskoff (Paoli, PA) was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after putting on an impressive power-hitting display in the Bears' Sunday doubleheader with Dartmouth. Greskoff went 5-for-7 over the two games, crushing two home runs and two doubles, driving in eight runs in just his second and third Ivy League starts.
In the Bears' opener with the Big Green on Sunday, Greskoff drove in six of the team's seven runs on a pair of round-trippers. He put Brown on the board with a two-run blast to center in the bottom of the second, then got the Bears back to within three with a grand slam to left in the sixth. In game two, he scored two runs and drove in two more, slugging two doubles, one that went off the right-center field wall on a line, and a single. Greskoff's 13 bases on the day tied for the team lead over the five-game week, even though he had just one at-bat in Brown's other three games.
Now likely to see expanded playing time after his breakout day, Greskoff raised his batting average to .320 (8-for-25). Of his eight hits, six have been for extra bases, including four home runs, which tie him for the team lead despite having far fewer at-bats than many of his teammates. His three home runs in Ivy League play tie him for third in the League despite having just 13 at-bats in Brown's 12 Ivy games. He is slugging .880 on the year and 1.308 in the League.
Greskoff is the second Brown freshman to be named Rookie of the Week this season. Catcher Matt Colantonio (Garden City, NY) was named Rookie of the Week on March 25 and April 8.
