Metzger Named Co-Ivy League Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, RI - Senior catcher Greg Metzger (Trumbull, CT) was named Co-Ivy League Player of the Week on April 9.
Metzger was the offensive catalyst for the Bears last week, hitting .684 (13-19) with three doubles, a homerun, and nine RBIs over six games as the Bears went 4-2. He has started in 24 of 25 games for the Bears this season and is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak.
In the nightcap of a doubleheader at Penn on Saturday, Metzger went a perfect four-for-four with a homerun and two RBIs. The senior followed up that performance with a three-for-four effort with two doubles and four RBIs in the first game of a doubleheader at Columbia on Sunday. Metzger is hitting .349 this season with 3 HR and 19 RBIs.
Behind the plate, Metzger has thrown out 12 of 19 runners and has recorded 114 putouts with 19 assists.
The Bears (11-14, 2-2 Ivy) will return to action on Wednesday, April 10 for a doubleheader with URI at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium beginning at 11 a.m.
