Princeton, NJ - Brown junior second baseman/pitcher Bryan Tews (Park Ridge, Ill.) has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after leading the Bears to their first victories of the season over the weekend. Tews batted .472 with four home runs and 13 RBI in eight games last week as the Bears played down south before heading into Ivy play. In four Ivy contests, he batted .579 with four homers and 10 RBI as Brown went 3-1.
Tews, the Ivy leader with a .459 batting average, shined against the Quakers. In game one on Saturday he allowed two earned runs in seven innings on the mound, striking out eight and walking one, and went 3-for-4 with two doubles at the plate. In game two, Tews went 5-for-6 with a three-run homer, four RBI, and four runs scored.
Tews and the rest of the Bears will finally set foot on their home field tomorrow when they host in-state rival Rhode Island. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m.
