Baseball splits final two with George Mason, Cleveland State
The Brown baseball team defeated George Mason 8-2 on Saturday, March 17, before falling to the Cleveland State Vikings 13-3 in the series finale on Sunday.
Against the Patriots, junior Jonathan Stern went seven scoreless innings, scattering five hits and fanning six to pick up his first win of the season for the Bears. David Greci, Sam Jennings and Bryant Romo split the final two innings, each working 2/3 of inning, to close the door for Brown.
Offensively, Brown was paced by Todd Iarussi, who went 3-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, launching Brown's first home run of the season. Shortstop Dan Spring added a pair of singles for Brown and a pair of stolen bases, while Greg Metzger went 1-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Cleveland State rallied from a 2-1 deficit after five innings on Sunday to take the weekend finale from Brown, scoring 7 runs off the Brown bullpen over the final 1 2/3 innings. Brown's offense managed just four hits on the day, as Iarussi picked up 2 hits in three at-bats, scoring a single run.
Brown is back in action on Saturday night, facing the Duke Blue Devils in North Carolina.
