PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown baseball team split a doubleheader with the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Aldrich-Dexter Field. The Bears won the first game 3-2 in extra-innings before falling 4-1 in game two.
In game one, sophomore Rob Deeb (West St. Paul, MN) singled home fellow sophomore John Magaletti (Scarsdale, NY) to break a 2-2 tie and give the Bears a thrilling 3-2 victory in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Freshman Chris Davidson (Wolfeville, Nova Scotia) picked up his second win of the season throwing a complete game for the Bears in the afternoon's first contest. Davidson (2-0) went all nine innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits while fanning eight Yale batters.
Deeb led the hitting attack as he went two-for-four with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Harris Frankel (Marietta, GA) went one-for-three with a long double off the center field wall and Magaletti also added a double for the Bears that ignited the ninth inning rally.
In game two, Brown (25-22, 13-7) was held to just four hits and fell 4-1 to the Bulldogs (12-27, 5-15 Ivy) in the nine-inning contest.
Freshman James Lowe (Asheboro, NC) went one-for-four with a double and Frankel went one-for-four with an RBI.
Senior John Cappello (Cranston, RI) started for the Bears and went six and a third innings. Cappello allowed four earned runs on five hits while striking out eight.
Brown remains one game back of Harvard in the Rolfe Division standings after Saturday's action. The Bears will now await the results of Sunday's doubleheader between Harvard and Dartmouth, which could determine the division champion.
