Sanford, ME - The Brown baseball team fell to Maine, 13-5, on Tuesday dropping the Bears to 10-18 on the year. A three-run fourth and eight run fifth guided the Black Bears to the victory. Sophomore Danny Hughes went 2-4 at the plate with two runs batted in.
Brown tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Hughes led off the inning with a single to center field. He stole second and advanced to third when freshman Devin Thomas grounded out to second base. Hughes scored when junior Jeff Nichols hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Maine then went on to break the tie and take a ten-run lead by the end of the fifth inning. The Bears struck for four-runs in the seventh but it was too little too late as they have now lost three straight.
Brown continues non-league action on Wednesday when it plays a doubleheader with Marist at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT, the home of the San Francisco Giant Double A affiliate, the Norwich Navigators.
