The Baseball team fell to 7-19-1 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy League dropping two to Penn today Sunday, April 13, 2003. The Quakers are now 9-3 in the Ivy League after defeating the Bears 7-4 and 16-8.
Junior Joel DeMaria (Santa Rosa, CA) pitched in four plus innings, starting for the Bears in game one. DeMaria struck-out three batters and gave up three earned runs. Senior Justin Lebowitz (Aberdeen, NJ) came into relieve DeMaria and was later relieved by senior Dan Spring (Washington, DC). Spring pitched in two innings struck-out one batter and gave up one earned run.
Freshman designated hitter Eric Larson (Bradenton, FL) homered in the bottom of the second to tie the game at two. Larson was 1-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Junior Bobby Deeb (West St. Paul, MN) was 2-4 with a run scored and a double. Sophomore Cameron Mitchell (Apex, NC), junior Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE), and freshman Cameron Johnson (Berkeley, CA) were all 1-3 in game one. Mitchell had a double, as Johnson and Kutler both batted runners in.
Junior Jason Priede (Tampa, FL) got the start in game two for Brown. Priede pitched in four plus innings, he struck-out four batters and gave up three earned runs. Freshman Shaun McNamara (Worcester, MA), juniors Harris Frankel (Marietta, GA), Sam Jennings (New Ashfrod, MA), and John Magaletti (Scarsdale, NJ) all came in at relief. Each pitcher struck out one batter, Frankel and Magaletti gave up three earned runs a piece as Jennings gave up one.
Deeb, Kutler and Johnson all hit homers for the Bears. Deeb was 4-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in as Kutler went 2-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Johnson also batted three runs in, he was 1-3 with one run scored. Mitchell was 2-4 with a run scored and a double.
Brown will face Columbia in a doubleheader tomorrow, Monday, April 14 starting at noon.
