CHESTNUT HILL, MA - In a rain shortened seven-inning game, the Brown baseball team came away with a 4-1 victory over Boston College, the number one ranked team in New England, on Wednesday afternoon at Shea Field.
The Bears (8-12) jumped on the board early in this one as they put four runs up on the board in the top of the second inning. Freshman James Lowe (Asheboro, NC) got things rolling with a two-run homer to deep left field to put the Bears on top 3-0. Two batters later, senior Rick Lynn (Towaco, NJ) drilled a solo homer to left to make the score 4-0.
Freshman right-hander Chris Davidson (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) started on the hill for the Bears and threw four strong innings. Davidson gave up one run on two hits while recording four strikeouts. Senior Jamie Grillo (2-0) (Bellingham, MA) came on for the fifth and sixth innings and held the Eagles scoreless to earn his second victory of the season. Fellow senior Bryant Romo (Arcadia, CA) threw the seventh as he earned the save for the Bears.
The game was called due to rain and darkness after the Bears retired the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the second inning, freshman Cameron Mitchell (Lincoln, RI) (Athens Drive HS/Raleigh, NC) led off with a double to left field. With one out and Mitchell on third, senior Greg Metzger (Trumbull, CT) knocked an RBI single up the middle to score Mitchell and give the Bears a 1-0 lead. Lowe then launched a mammoth homerun to deep left field to make the score 3-0. Lynn followed with a solo homer two batters later.
The Bears (8-12) will be back in action for their home opener against Northeastern on Thursday, April 4 at 3:00 p.m.
