The Brown University Baseball Team dropped two in a doubleheader with Vermont today Wednesday, April 2, 2003 in the Bear's home opener. Brown fell in the first game 7-2 and dropped the second game 11-2, making their overall record 5-15-1 on the season.
Starting for the Bears at pitcher in the first of two games was freshman James Cramphin (Simsbury, CA). Cramphin pitched three full innings for the Bears and recorded two strike-outs, he gave up two earned runs on six hits.
Coming into relief Cramphin was junior Jason Priede (Tampa, FL) who pitched two innings as did junior Harris Frankel (Marietta, GA) who finished off the game for Brown. Priede gave up one earned run and recorded three strike-outs as Frankel finished with two strike-outs and no hits.
Sophomore Bobby Wiginton (Fresno, CA) was 3-4 with a double as junior Bobby Deeb (West St, Paul, MN) was 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Junior Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) brought a run in on 2-4 hitting. Freshman Paul Christian (Chapel Hill, NC) scored the other run for Brown.
Senior Justin Lebowitz (Aberdeen, NJ) started at pitcher for the Bears in the second game. Lebowitz pitched in three innings recording four strike-outs and giving up three earned runs. Freshman Shaun McNamara (Worcester, MA), Frankel, and freshman Cameron Johnson (Berkeley, CA) all pitched one inning of relief for Brown.
Sophomore Jeff Nichols (Medford, NJ) and Christian hit back to back homeruns in the bottom of the second to put the Bears up by one. The Catamounts scored two in the top of the third and never looked back.
The Bears will open up Ivy League action this weekend as they travel to Princeton for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 and to Cornell for a doubleheader on the 6th.
