ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Brown baseball team pounded out 17 hits on its way to a dominating 11-1 victory over Navy at Max Bishop Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The game was called after eight innings due to the 10-run rule.
Senior ace Jonathan Stern (Long Valley, NJ) (3-0) earned his third victory of the season by throwing six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out nine. Freshman Eli Friedman (Pittsburgh, PA) came on for the last two innings, holding the Mids to one run on three hits while striking out four.
Offensively, the Bears (5-2) exploded for 17 hits and took a 10-0 lead after plating four runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Freshman right fielder Adam Royster (Bethesda, MD) had a huge day at the plate, as he went 4 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs. Sophomore left fielder Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) tied a Brown single game record with two triples as he finished the day 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs.
Senior Shaun Gallagher (West Chester, PA) and freshman James Lowe (Asheboro, NC) each had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Senior Greg Metzger (Trumbull, CT) and freshman Jeff Nichols (Medford, NJ) also added two hits for the Bears.
The Bears are now 5-2 and will resume action on Friday, March 22, at the University of Maryland at 3:00 p.m.
