The Brown University baseball team dropped a 9-8 decision to the Duke Blue Devils making them 1-5-1 on the season. The Bears were up 8-3 in the seventh inning, but the Blue Devils came back to make the game go into extra innings and finally grabbing the win in the tenth. Brown committed six errors in the loss.
Junior Joel DeMaria (Santa Rosa, CA) pitched six and two thirds innings, he gave up six runs, five of which were earned. DeMaria recorded no walks and had two strike-outs. Freshman James Cramphin (Simsbury, CT) pitched one and a third innings, gave up no runs and had two strike-outs. Senior Dan Spring (Washington, DC) came in to finish the game pitching in the final one and two thirds innings. Spring gave up three runs, one of which was earned.
Sophomore bobby Wiginton (Fresno, CA) was 2-6 with a triple. He scored three runs and recorded two RBI. Juniors Matt Kutler (Omaha, NE) and Bobby Deeb (West St. Paul, MN) were both 3-5 on the day. Deeb scored one run and recorded an RBI as Kutler accumulated three RBI.
Sophomore James Lowe (Asheboro, NC) was 3-5 on the day with one RBI as freshman Paul Christian (Chapel Hill, NC) was 1-3 recording two runs and an RBI. The Bears will face Ball St. at 11:00 a.m. at Duke tomorrow Sunday, March 16, 2003.
