Bears Fall To Vanderbilt, 9-5, In Game One of Three Game Series

Nashville, TN - The Brown baseball (0-4) fell to Vanderbilt, 9-5, in the first game of the a three-game series on Friday in Nashville, TN. The Commodores built up a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning backed by strong pitching as the Bears managed just one hit in the first five innings. Brown finally broke out of the slump with a run in the sixth and four in the eighth but Vanderbilt cushioned its lead to four with two runs in the bottom of the eighth and shutdown the Bears in the top of the ninth for the 9-5 win.

Junior Devin Thomas went 1-4 with a run scored as his two-out double followed by junior Eric Larson's single, got Brown on the board in the sixth.

Senior Paul Christian drove in two runs in the eighth with his first homerun of the season. Sophomore Jeff Dietz drove in the other two Brown runs in the inning with a two-run homer of his own, the first of his career.

Larson finished the game 3-4 at the plate while junior Adjatay Nyadjroh and freshman Dan Shapiro both went 1-2. Junior Bryan Tews suffered the loss on the mound.

Brown will play Vanderbilt on Saturday at 3 p.m. and close out the three-game series on Sunday at noon.
