Bears Drop Season Opener 5-4 to Charleston Southern

The Brown University Baseball Team kicked off the 2003 season at Charleston Southern. The Bears suffered a 5-4 loss in a hard fought battle that went extra innings. Senior Justin Lebowitz (Aberdeen, NJ) pitched four and two thirds innings, he recorded four strike-outs and gave up three earned runs, and five hits.
Freshman Cameron Mitchell (Apex, NC) came in to relieve Lebowitz and then freshman Shaun McNamara (Worcester, MA) finished the game for the Bears playing in two plus innings and recording four strike outs.
Junior Bobby Deeb (West St. Paul, MN) was 1-4 with one run as fellow junior Matt Kutler (Omaha. NE) recorded one RBI and one sacrifice fly on 1-3 at the plate. Senior Dan Spring (Washington, DC)recorded a double and an RBI on 2-3 hitting.
Freshman Paul Christian (Chapel Hill, NC) was 1-2 from the plate recording a double as junior John Magaletti was 2-3 with two singles, and two runs. The Bears will continue action as they face Tennessee Tech at 4:00 p.m.
