Tallahassee, FL - The Brown baseball team completed its three-game series with 6th ranked Florida State on Sunday, falling 15-7 as the Seminoles earned the series sweep. The Bears posted their best offensive showing in the final meeting however, pounding out eight hits, including two a piece by junior Bryan Tews, senior Danny Hughes, junior Eric Larson and freshman Dan Shapiro.
FSU got a run in the first and five in the third before Brown rallied for six runs in the fourth to tie things up at 6-6. Shapiro recorded his first collegiate homerun to get two runs on the board. Hughes went on to drive in two more runs with a single to right field while Larson's single up the middle allowed two more to score.
The Seminoles quickly retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth though, getting seven runs off four hits. They added runs in the fifth and sixth before the Bears got one more run in the seventh and final inning.
Sophomore Jeff Dietz pitched 3.1 in his season debut while sophomore Rob Hallberg, senior Ethan Burton and junior Ethan Silverstein saw relief time. Silverstein pitched two innings, allowing just one run off one hit and struck out four.
Brown will return to action next Friday when it takes part in another three-game series, this time against Vanderbilt.
