HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth second baseman Sean Sullivan provided a walk-off single in the 13th inning as the Brown baseball team dropped a close battle on the road, 2-1, in the series finale of the three-game set Tuesday afternoon at Biondi Park.
Brown (10-24, 5-13) outhit Dartmouth by an 8-6 margin, while the Big Green improved to 12-20-1, 8-6-1. The game was a makeup from Sunday's series finale that was postponed due to rain.
Will Tomlinson (Irvine, Calif.) gave the Bears a strong start on the mound, giving up just two hits and one run over 6.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Austen Michel earned the win for Dartmouth in relief, allowing one hit over 7.0 frames, while rookie Brennan Vasquez (Milton, Fla.) limited the Big Green to one run in 3.1 innings of work in the loss.
Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) led the Bears offensively with three hits in addition to one RBI, giving him seven hits in the series.
Brown had the first scoring chance of the game in the top of the second, when Phillips, Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Hunter Carey (North Hampton, N.H.) led off with three straight singles, but Chatham retired the next three batters in order to get out of the jam. Tomlinson was perfect through the first four innings for the Bears and allowed just one base runner though the opening five frames.
The Bears struck first with the first run of the game in the top of the sixth. Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.) led off the inning with a single and later crossed the plate when Phillips singled up the middle. Dartmouth responded in the bottom half as Nate Ostmo hit a solo homer to even the score.
From there, the two pitching staffs kept the game at 1-1 over the next six innings, as Dante Bosnic (Lutz, Fla.) and JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) came in for 3.0 combined scoreless innings for the Bears.
Steffen Torgersen hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the 13th and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, before Sullivan ended the game with an RBI single to left center.
Brown will host Cornell in a three-game series this weekend, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday (11:30 AM). All three games will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
